This chopped cheeseburger sandwich is quickly becoming a favorite in our house. I’m sure it will become a favorite in yours, too. Let’s dive into the ingredients and the easy steps to make this perfect sandwich!
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs 90/10 ground beef
- 1 medium onion roughly chopped
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- 4-6 slices of American cheese (melted on the beef mixture)
- Hoagie rolls (cut in half)
- Toppings: lettuce, tomato, extra onion, ketchup, mustard, bacon, mushrooms, or anything else you enjoy!
Instructions:
- Prepare the onions: Start by grilling the chopped onion until it’s caramelized and soft.
- Mix beef and seasonings: In a large bowl combine the ground beef salt, pepper, smoked paprika and mustard, then mix everything together well.
- Cook the beef mixture: Move the onions to the side and cook the meat over medium heat. Once almost fully cooked, add the onions. Stir occasionally to ensure the beef cooks evenly and the onions get nicely incorporated.
- Melt the cheese: Once the beef is fully cooked, cut the heat and add the slices of American cheese on top of the meat mixture. Let the cheese melt over the beef and onions for a few minutes, then gently mix it all together.
- Toast the hoagie rolls: While the beef and cheese are cooking, slice the hoagie rolls in half and toast them in a separate skillet or oven.
- Assemble the sandwich: Spoon the cheesy beef and onion mixture onto the toasted hoagie rolls. You can use as much or as little of the filling as you like! Then, add your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato, extra onion, ketchup, mustard, or even bacon or mushrooms for extra flavor.
